about
paula
I
have pursued painting for much of my adult life, but it did
not become my sole occupation until the mid-1990’s.
After graduating from the University of Michigan I taught
reading and English. Later I earned a Ph.D. in education and
did some post-doctoral work at Yale University. I taught future
teachers, became an administrator in the public schools, and
concluded my 25-year contribution to education as Director
of Leadership Development.
At the same time, I also explored many modes of artistic expression.
I began working with textiles in the 1960’s, studied
oil painting in the 1970’s, and experimented with charcoal,
pencil and watercolor techniques in the 1980’s. I discovered
my affinity to silk painting in 1990, and it continues to
be my favorite artistic medium.
I began exhibiting in 1998 with a solo show and have been
in numerous art shows since then in venues such as, The Thompson
Fine Arts Gallery, The Contemporary, The McKinney Avenue Contemporary
(MAC), Southside on Lamar Gallery, Trinity River Arts Center,
Northpark Mall, and the Dallas Main Library. I won 3rd Place
in Abstract at an Irving Art Association show and have been
featured in the media several times, most recently in Home
and Heritage Magazine and previously in Dallas Arts Revue,
WEB Magazine and Dallas Arts Seen.
In addition to fine art, I have also accomplished a great
deal in the world of fashion. My clients include The Ft. Worth
Modern Art Museum Gift Shop, Mary McFadden Couture, Joan Vass
and Textures Gallery. I have privately received encouragement
from other well-known names in fashion, such as Nicole Miller
and Kim Dawson. For the last two years, I have co-chaired
the highly respected Career Day for Fashion Group International
of Dallas as well as serving on their Board.
As a coach, speaker and trainer, I help others unblock their
creativity in the work place and privately. I continue to
do the same for myself by writing creatively and dancing Argentine
Tango.
